Thomas Wilcox, English Puritan, urges charity to the poor, so as to relieve Christ [Mt 25:31ff]. Do NOT snoop about the recipient’s condition. He says that it is better to give many Counterfeits, than one needy should go unrelieved.

Nowadays, it’s more like the opposite: if an aspect of the work of a relief agency is not well understood, it’s better to make sure they go unfunded.

How can you relieve Christ in his Members?

Set of 4 bowls made as a commission. I love how these translucent glazes create a dreamy feel. Dragonflies in the long grass in the late afternoon.

I was boiling the kettle before work one day this week and it occurred to me that I feel a lot like I'm waiting... not even sure what I'm waiting for. There's so much uncertainty around, right? Can't help feeling a bit of foreboding. Globally and also personally (waiting for my PhD to be marked, I guess, mostly).

If ever I needed to remember to be here now, it's this moment. Reminding myself that nobody knows the future and if I'm always waiting for something to happen I'm not paying attention to what's happening!

It's kind of hard to resist all the what-ifs, isn't it, though?! Sigh. Breathe. Tea.

It has been a day of mostly reading and writing and talking aloud to myself ('What does that even mean? That does not make sense' and other such murmurings while I reread my own work).

Part of me is excited for the holidays, part of me is already exhausted by the next fortnight and all the everything that is supposed to happen beforehand.

Be in the moment, breathe, breathe, breathe.... = my mantra, especially this month.

Just checked the messages from the school and there is 'a confirmed case of whooping cough'. Which means there are probably several unconfirmed ones. The Rabble are fine; Kid4 is due his booster next year and all the others are covered. Adam and I probably not so much. Tomorrow I'll call and see when we can get a vax, hopefully before Christmas

Nicholas Ridley was a martyr under Mary I. God is pleased with alms, will require them from our hands. Public provision should provide jobs against the indignity of begging.

But today, we seek to keep ourselves from the shame of seeing beggars, & make public provision to sweep them off our streets and highways. We testify that our Lord is more setteth by hours of devotional time.

How can you provide for the orphans and aged?

Had a really fun night eating latkes with some old college friends, including one I haven't seen for *decades*.

I just wish seeing these old college friends didn't trigger such feelings of regret about choices I made in my 20s (or more accurately, choices I let someone else make for me!).

The past is past. There's no way to change it, and regret over it is utterly useless.

What I CAN do is make choices about my life now, and my life going forward.
