Anyone know a good calendar app that could replace google calender on Android? I don't need anything fancy and I am open for one-time payments, but I _HATE_ ads. Feel free to boost. #askfedi
Good morning fedi friends! Got another question for ya!
My 18yo cousin is considering a change of major - from HR to #Biology.
Does anyone have a degree in #bio or similar? If so, three questions!
1) What career did you ultimately end up in?
2) Did you need to continue past undergrad in order to get to that career?
3) If you could redo college, would you get a bio degree again? If not, what would you recommend for someone with a passion for science but a dislike of chemistry?
Thanks y'all! If she was leaning toward the "T" in STEM I could be more help but "S" is more outside my prevue
Dear fediverse, according to you, how would a dystopian near future look like in which most people rely on LLMs such as ChatGPT for most of their daily tasks, questions, code, writing, work?
An #IoT #ProductResearch #AskFedi:
People rummage through my garbage bin, but:
Is there a good open source tool for GDPR/ ISO IEC 27701 data mapping compliance?
Specifically, I am looking for a tool that to describe data elements and data flows in JSON and then visualize it.

I have an #accessibility question for #screenReader users.
If I use hashtags within flowing text, like #this, does that annoyingly interrupt the narration flow and should I rather list them all at the end?
Or is in-text tagging the preferable alternative to a large wall of hashtags at the end, like this:
A question for my friends in Belgium. Does Belgium have something similar to the German GOÄ (official medical fee schedule)? I probably need to submit Belgian medical invoices to my German health insurance. #askfedi
Oh #electronics #lazyweb, I have an #askfedi - I'm looking at a garmin gps watch (instinct 2s) it's not getting GPS. We think the GPS antenna has been damaged, thing is I'm not even sure which part is the GPS antenna. There's a couple of things that look like antennas put they're just 30mm or so of copper. I thought a gps antenna hadda be more complicated than that?. Anyone know of a teardown article or vid on garmins, or some tech doco?
I've sent this to the alsa-user mailing list, but in case there are any #ALSA experts on here. #AskFedi
Hi all,
I've recently acquired a Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 Mk1 second hand and have it running Debian 12 quite well, except for one little nit.
Headphone and Speaker controls are swapped. So to hear any sound, I need to open up a mixer like `alsamixer` (specifically I need to run `alsamixer -c 0` to bypass Pipewire/PulseAudio) then turn up the "Headphone" channel to hear sound out of the internal speaker.
The "Speaker" channel controls the combo headset port.
I need the "Headphone" to adjust the combo headset port, and the "Speaker" to adjust the internal speaker … the way they are in fact labelled.
Details of the machine:

I've tried setting up `/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf` to try an alternate `model` (I tried `aspire-headset-mic` based on other Panasonic machines needing this) but based on this list at https://docs.kernel.org/sound/hd-audio/models.html it is not at all clear which of these (if any) "switches" these two mixer channels.
If anyone could advise what `snd-hda-intel` module settings I should use, I'd greatly appreciate it.
PS: SourceForge's subscribe form is broken https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/@stuartl/114380128562637343 so I cannot subscribe, apologies for the moderation noise.
Does anybody know a FOSS software/plugin to scan photo slides? I'm thinking about something where we can put several slides on a flat scanner, and it would detect automatically the slide and do the cropping.
In non FOSS, it seems that VueScan does that, but I would like FOSS.
Thanks!
SOLVED: 7ZIP CAN OPEN THE FILE AND EXTRACT THE EXE.
I downloaded some software that I need to run and unfortunately it's in BIN format, not an EXE.
I haven't needed to mount an ISO or BIN file in a long time.
I know back in the day (15+ years ago) I used programs like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools for mounting and or burning stuff like this.
Is there a newer #FOSS program that is recommended for #Windows 10 for mounting? I don't need to burn it.
Okay, weird question time: what are the best storage options for large sets of Magic: The Gathering cards that will be in a storage building? I need to place probably over 20,000 cards in a storage unit on for an indeterminate amount of time. I don't want cold, hot, moisture, dryness to impact their integrity. What is a good way to accomplish this? Note that this unit is not climate controlled.
hey
asking because i know next to nothing about these things!
we'll need to get one of those plug-in-and-go wifi things (not a router) from a new provider.
since talking to them always feels like we're getting screwed over:
what should we absolutely ask them before signing a new contract?
i'd really be extremely grateful for any sincere tips
