Georgiana BrummellAnyone who is blind, or who has worked with the blind, knows how expensive our technology can be. This couldn't be more true with relation to braille displays. Even the cheapest costs at least $799, and it's already behind the newest in that line, at $899. This is the Orbit Reader 20 and 20+. Now, a student in India wants to change that by creating a display that is truly affordable (under $50)! Please pass this on, so that we can give him greater recognition within the blind community. Even if it costs a bit more than he initially suspected it would, there is no excuse for the $2,000 to $5,000 average price of such technology when cheaper alternatives can be designed! ChasMusic (he/him)
The following CSS seems to work on the Mastodon desktop website to hide posts with images without alt text:

#mastodon div.status:has(img:not([alt])),
#mastodon div.detailed-status:has(img:not([alt])) {
display:none !important;
}

It's a bit tedious to set up if you haven't done it before though. There are plenty of articles on the web on setting up a browser personal stylesheet so I won't go through the details since they vary by browser and operating system.

#accessibility

ChasMusic (he/him)
Been thinking about folks' desire to not show posts with images missing alt text. I think it's doable using CSS if you're using a browser such as Firefox that lets you have a personal style sheet (with some configuration finagling). But if the post is urgent, as with a public safety agency, you would miss the post. (Of course, if the urgent post was only an image, you would miss it anyway, if you are personally dependent on alt text.)

¿Thoughts?

#accessibility

Are there any consultants who could help us with #a11y audits and/or training?
