The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray

As someone who has read a lot of Austen fan fiction in my life, this is one of the good ones! Gray has clearly put a lot of thought into the timeline and how all of the characters and plots from the existing books fit together. The setting is well-researched and immersive, which is what I want from historical fiction, even when it's a fluffier genre like mystery. The characters are believable and the style feels fairly authentic with some modern frills, which is perhaps preferable to stilted imitation.

I also found the two next-generation protagonists (a Darcy son and a Tilney daughter) absolutely delightful. The murder mystery and hints of romance are just a cherry on top!
