It seems that more and more of the reputable online media is using a paid subscription model. I get it, the bills need to be paid and advertising dollars are not what they used to be.
The trouble is, not everyone can pay to read. Consequently the media owned by ‘the right’ is the source for many.
What’s the answer?
I know there are solid news sources still out there for free (love the #CBC ), but they don’t always have coverage of everything - no one can.
With everything going on in the world right now, it’s more important than ever that the stories be told.
While researching a story I’m writing, I came across this article from The Columbia Journalism Review in 2012 dealing with the number of jobs that were promised by TransCanada when it was constructing the Keystone XL pipeline.
The job numbers in media releases from TransCanada differed wildly from their submission to the US State Department for the final environmental impact statement.
