Reka (Steam/PC) Begin life as a witch, training under the watchful eye of Baba Yaga. Create your own chicken hut, upgrade and expand it, and roam the forests of Europe at the tail end of the 19th Century.

Reka is an Early Access game that went across my Discovery Queue a little bit before its release in Sept '24. I bought it during the Winter Steam Sale and what with PSN being down the last couple days, decided to play it and see how it's coming along (it's regularly updated).

I like the concept: create your witch (not a great many customization options, but there's more than a few), "wake up" in the forest and head to the nearby village whose residents will mention an odd old woman in the forest while asking you to do favors for them.

Turns out, she's Baba Yaga and she's been waiting for you. She helps you rebirth her long fallen chicken hut, you take control of it, and the two of you head off into the forests looking for spirits and people to help. Collect raw materials to expand your house (you will also acquire one off items to place in it) and learn to cook meals and other things for the residents of this world.

In execution, there's definitely some rough edges. Building can be a bit of a pain as the "interlocking" of objects isn't as simple as it should be. There's some odd bugs, quests that have a secondary objective not being able to be resolved. For ex, person asks me to retrieve thing, forest spirit has thing and says "can we keep it? it's not like they'll miss one, they could make another" and if you say yes, now the quest to retrieve thing can't be completed. Should be able to tell person "hey these spirits wanted it so I let them keep it" but it just sits there in the log, unsolved lol.

But, it IS Early Access so, these things are expected. I'm still enjoying it (10 hours so far) so I'm comfortable saying it's worth checking out if the concept appeals to you. 👍 👍

Picked up Reka during the Steam winter sale. Loving it! The physics engine took some getting used to, but once I figured out interaction is based on what you are looking at, not proximity, it was off to the races.

THE VIBES! Finnish-ruso folk lore, beautiful artwork, atmospheric music. A house on chicken legs!

If you are into spooky/cozy I highly recommend.
