Ok! I have a first version of my van on the garage floor. The next steps are to run a few more in-wall cables, install the assemblies (fuse box, switches, blower pots, etc.) that fasten to wall panels, and then button her up.
Once that's done, it's time to start building furniture! Right now I have only a bed and everything else is in stacked bins. It'll be wonderful to have a work surface, drawers, a water faucet, and mounts for the van LAN boxen.

It's cardboard prototype time!
🎉
I pulled out my camper van's interior wall panels to run cabling from the starter battery to the house power system's DC/DC charger. While the walls are open to the air, I'm also figuring out how to add a marine blower to one of the stock rear cabin air outlets. Anything to avoid cutting holes in the van's metal shell.

Couple of youtube vids later, learning how to use Fusion simulation features. Added more strength to the motor mounts based on the feedback from earlier calculations + simulation environment.

Now stable for:
100kg * 9.81 downwards force (weight of the stack)
280Nm * 7.94 (reduction gearbox) = 2223Nm rotational force

with ~2.4 safety factor. I'd have liked SF >3 but ah well. I don't think this steel will ever see full 280Nm and I'd be more concerned it'll tear the original engine mount rubbers into pieces far before that.

Next up.. steel?

So, It was dark enough for me to actually turn on all the interior lights and see what I got. And honestly it's lovely. It's not so bright as a house but not so dark either. I honestly like it.

Gonna need to reroute the power and controls to the stand alone power when that's setup. Not sure how yet.

But it's nice in there.
Polling fedi engineer people before attempting to learn how to calculate this myself. 😄

Mounting the motor like this is going to be alright? Right? 😄 (view from above)

There's going to be 4th mounting point above the stack as well just for the safety. But ideally I want these three to be able to support the motor on their own.

Using the original mounting points and rubber vibration dampener mounts, but slightly concerned about the long beams deflection/yield. Would *not* want to lose the motor onto a motorway!

So I didn't quiet succeed in my goals of getting the forums and the #PixelFed instance up. I just kept getting distracted by shit.

Got to try to dispose of 4 containers of Prestone DexCool orange coolant. The vans old owner was going to use it to change the radiator fluid out but we made sure there was none in there and used standard Universal Green.

Now we need to properly dispose of the stuff we got.

Tail pipe is still pumping put white smoke. Dad thinks it's just condensation from the system. And we do leave it shut down a lot. But I feel it would have reduced by now after being started a few days in a row if that was the case.

Could be stale gas, the tank hasn't been refilled since we got this thing several months ago. This is the option I prefer. Once I get the Tires changed and maybe the Brakes serviced I can drive around until the tank is empty then run a tank of Premium with Additive through and maybe clean it out. And Oil change will give me more information as well.

The worst case scenario, and the one I am afraid is the actual problem, is an internal coolant leak. This would mean the engine itself needs repair and could run into the thousands of Dollars. I don't mind it if it gets the van on the road and I need a full diagnostic anyways, but this isn't the sort of thing I want to deal with.

Once the PixelFed instance in online on Wanderers-Waypoint.com and I have confirmed it's properly federated I will probably move these updates there. But I have to ensure Federation works as that domain used to be a Mastodon instance and I self-destructed it.

I sketched the interior of a Ford Transit low roof 130" wheelbase cargo van and how I'm thinking about building it out as a living space. There's a long benchseat slash bed (in blue), a work surface (also blue, but higher and shorter), and a garage area in the rear that also provides shelving inside the living space.
The second image shows the rear garage area with a power bank, a heater, and an air conditioner.
The third image shows two smol dog beds in green.

VW designed the windshield washer to work with pressure supplied from the spare tire. Fluid travels from the pressurized reservoir all the way to the stalk switch. Pulling the stalk opens a valve allowing the fluid to pass through and continue onto the washer jets.

Not wanting fluid near my switch wiring, nor do I want to mess with the spare tire for pressure, I 3D-printed a holder for a microswitch to replace the valve and to control an electric pump. 😊

VW original L90D over the pale violet. 😊

I must say I've been surprised by the amount of work related to the paintjob... Sanding, filler, primers.. Ahhhh. I do understand now why it costs so much. 😂

But I wanted to do it myself. I wanted it to look like mine. I want to be able to say "I did it". 😊
