Every Sunday I look back at the preceding week in kpop and pick out a music video or performance that I have particularly liked. This week I have chosen Weeekly – Lights On.
I know I featured this song very recently, but I have to be honest and say that I love these outfits. Together with the song, they give us a stage as crisply refreshing as a lemon sorbet.

Weeekly's last comeback provided us with the excellent choreographed B side "Backwards".
This time we are not so lucky. "Dance Dance Dance" starts off well, but then, in a move which has been rightly described as bizarre, interpolates Wagner's Lohengrin wedding march/Here Comes The Bride.The song never recovers, and some awkward moments in the choreography confirm that this B side is no Backwards 2.0.
All is not lost though in this showcase stage. Stylists should take note of the length and shape of the blonde Jihan's sheer overlay skirt; doesn't it look pretty as she dances, and doesn't it make a refreshing change from miniskirts?
These stylists should also note the shoes Weeekly wear here and in other videos too; they look both practical for dancing and so much more elegant than the clunky combat boots or giant platforms in which idols are all too often shod.

Of all the “Summer Queen” releases this year, “Lights On” is the one I have enjoyed the most, the chorus exercising a melodic appeal to me. I quite like the MV, but I absolutely adore this nautically styled M Countdown stage.

Wonderfully catchy song from Weeekly, intended, I think, to boost their Korean fans facing exams.
Perhaps the specifics don't matter that much - it should work for anyone with a test, exam, pile of grading, observation, evaluation, or some other ordeal
coming up!

Weekly have been releasing performance videos of sidetracks from their most recent album: first the full group in“Backwards”, which I chose for #KpopOfTheWeek, then “A+”, featuring Jihan and Jaehee in a nice callback to the cute concept, and now Monday, Soeun, Zoa, and Soojin in this video. I particularly like the choreography here, which carries a hint of the sexy without a trace of the lewd – a happy combination!
Weeekly’s comeback has been one of the unexpected highlights of the year for me.

I like the dark electropop sound, love the outfits they wear at the beginning of the MV, and positively adore the costume change to evening elegance!

I am having so much fun getting into this group. I quite liked their earlier releases, thought "Ven Para" was an awful misstep, but then found myself falling in love since "Vroom Vroom".
I don't know whether this pleasure in rediscovering Weeekly is either evidence that I am not depressed or is itself an antidepressant; whatever the case might be, I am loving this giddy joy!
