Okay, this is just stupid! One of the benefits of having a #website is that people can access your services at any time, day or night, right? Well, I just went to the #SocialSecurity website to try and get a benefit verification letter, which I need because I'm trying to reestablish a #VocationalRehabilitation case. I clicked "Sign In" and was greeted by this message:

This service is not available at this time.
Please try again during our regular service hours (Eastern Time):

| Day | Service Hours |
|-----|--------------|
| Monday-Friday | 4:15 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. |
| Saturday | 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. |
| Sunday | 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. |
| Federal Holidays | Same hours as the day the holiday occurs. |

If you need immediate assistance:

 • You may call us Monday through Friday: 8:00AM - 7:00PM at: 1-800-772-1213
 • If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, call our toll-free TTY number: 1-800-325-0778

This of the website limitation is especially frustrating for me because I have a #Non24HourSleepWakeDisorder and an unpredictable schedule. It feels like the website is designed without thinking about people like me who need flexibility.
Has anyone else out there had similar issues with government services or other websites?

I am so angry right now.

I have been planning to buy a MacBook Laptop for the last 6 months, and today I got around to testing if my ham radio software would work under x64 emulation in Win11 ARM64 edution.

Of course it F**king doesn’t. The main piece of software that runs most of my radio stuff completely craps out on the Visual C libraries being x64 emulated.

With v7 of the software promising linux and Mac support, but with no solid timeframe, I’m now back to trying to figure out how to best upgrade my radio shack when Win10 reaches EOS.

Linux is no-go (you may have seen previous posts) - Rig control is only just barely there and the number of interdependencies that create additional conditions to make things work is just not making it practical for me.

Upgrading existing Win10 machine is no-go thanks to MS deciding there was a need to generate a heap of e-waste by locking Win11 functionality to only recent CPUs.

My other SFF machines will suffer the same CPU lockout fate.

Leaning into replacing apps with Mac equivalents is less than idea, as most of the ham radio app development uses the windows platform. I don’t need to make my setup any more niche than it already is :)

I’m thinking my only option at this point is to purchase a cheap Win11 compatible laptop and dedicate that to the radio shack and mobile operations.

@raucao
Welp.

Silver Lining for me personally:
One more in a long list of reasons for
switching to a frame.work
Laptop with #Linux, #FreeBSD & #VMs.

That is said by somebody who:

Still owns & runs his #Macintosh SE,
Has had no need to reinstall OSX from an OG IMac G5 in 2004 until the end of 2024.
And is addicted to Icloud since its inception.
Of course had the first ever Ipod.

Tim fuckt up #BOEING style.

@FibroJedi it's actually not a #client thing, but a #server thing.

Which is a shame, but then again they refuse to acknowledge problems and instead stonewall users with their nonchalant #TechBro attitude...

So far, GlitchSoc allows way #over9000 characters (AFAICT it's 11.000 on infosec.space & infosec.exchange), and AFAICT it does account for everything - so there's that.

 • But then again Markdown is sleek and efficient as a format so it's not as if you'd be writing #HTML directly and needing all the
blabla
nonsense...

So yeah, I use the "Advanced UI" aka. "Deck" version of the #Web - Interface which is like #TweetDeck but for Mastodon/GlitchSoc and @Tusky / #Tusky on mobile but I do type that stuff like a markdown file by hand...

Pitch Besides manually adding a CSV file for blocks under /settings/imports , the option to automatically pull and update / overwrite blocklists would be greatly appreciated. This could also provid...

“I just want to make three comments on what the panelists said…”

Sure, you may WANT to, but you shouldn't always get what you want, you selfish, grandstanding toadstool.

It's QUESTION and answer time, not MONOLOGUE time, twirp.

Sit your ass down and return the microphone to people with actual questions.
