PS—no matter what the reason you go up to The Hugh Lane, there’s always this reason to hang around: the Harry Clarke stained glass room. #HarryClarke #StainedGlass #HughLane #DublinCityGallery #IrishArt #Art
Having a 7 year old in tow added fun, especially with the floating silver pillows. And the images felt more resonant to the 2020s than when I saw many of them in the 1990s: a nuke launch-site map of Russia, a portrait of a criminal president, police brutality, guns and more guns, celebrities, morbid voyeurism, stuff for sale over and over again, selfies, video portraits, never ending TV footage. The response drawings by kids was worth it too. #Warhol #AndyWarhol #HughLane #DublinCityGallery
I was not feeling excited about seeing the Warhol show at the Hugh Lane. I thought the 1997 survey at IMMA had closed that book and the era of this type of blockbuster was gone. But — maybe it was the curation and gallery, or the beautiful November day, or a day’s work leave, or a good visit beforehand to my daughter’s metabolic clinic … whatever, it was enjoyable, and sometimes surprising.
