#Palestine / A photography project confronts humiliation and silencing voices critical of the war on Gaza

Since October 2023, hundreds of Israeli citizens, predominantly Palestinians, have been arrested as part of a crackdown on free speech, often for expressing solidarity with Gaza. In some instances, police officers photographed the detainees, sometimes against Israeli flags, and disseminated these humilating images through official and unofficial channels, intending to deter others from expressing dissent.

This project revisits these individuals, presenting them with framed copies of the demeaning images and capturing new portraits of them holding the photos with pride, alongside their accounts of the arrest and its impact.

The goal is to reclaim the narrative and highlight the human cost of suppressing dissent, as many faced public shaming and false accusations, despite most cases being closed without indictment.

[followup] Who would be interested in watching an Israeli performer in Basel while Israel plans to establish a concentration camp for 2.5 million Palestinians on the outskirts of the Gaza Strip? This is after Israel has killed thousands and is now attempting to exterminate the survivors. To be honest, the performer’s shamelessness is equally disturbing.

#Ireland’s public broadcaster, #RTÉ, has requested a discussion with the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) about Israel’s inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest. This comes after 72 former contestants called for Israel’s broadcaster, Kan, to be banned from the upcoming event in Basel due to KAN’s complicity in #Israel’s actions against Palestinians.
