I had a chance to witness the Great Blue Herons elaborate courtship rituals at the Everett Marina in Washington state recently. Although they don't mate for life, they form a close bond for a breeding season. The male picks the nest site and attracts a female by displaying various courtship rituals. In this capture the male displays neck stretching as a part of the courtship rituals to attract the female's attention and actually it looks like they're doing the tango.
