@witchescauldron
OK, you post on this stuff almost as frequently as a clock chimes, more often than the cockerel crows. We'll bite seeing as it's full moon and allegedly the best time for sowing seeds.
• Where are your audience, who are your #sheeple? Most will be blithely hopping in and out of the various walled gardens, so how are they to discover, or be persuaded to, the joys of the #OpenWeb; that it's the (non-cancerous) #growth (aka #PostGrowth / #Degrowth) they're truly looking for? How are they to be converted into disciples and evangelists?
° From the opposite POV, what sort of #silo are you going to build for your composting needs. The sort of open skip that other people will opportunistically fill up rapidly with all sorts of shit and trash? And will you be relying on the rakes, forks and shovels of a huge team of mods? How will they be onboarded? Or a pay-what-you-can-or-will model where people can post all their shit until moved on?
• And with respect to your pitch for the #OMN, just as inevitably, as the Esther Dysons of this word can never be unheard saying, "Does it even scale?"

Would merrily go off on further tangents on the Peertube/Youtube dilemmas, what is to be done with an anarcho-silo like Kolektiva, and so on, but hey there's other nettles to be scythed. Does it all go into the mix and get broken down into some lovely fluffy and friable rich humus in the end?

🌍 Rethinking Economics for a Sustainable Future 🌍
As the social-ecological crisis reveals the deep flaws of our current economic systems, we must explore bold alternatives. On April 2nd, I’ll be presenting at an INDEP online talk, where we introduce our latest scientific model—an integrated framework uniting economic, ecological, and social dimensions.

Keep money circulating in our communities — without creating new currencies 🔄🌍

💶 Ekhilur, a nonprofit citizen cooperative in the Basque region, is pioneering an approach to strengthening the local economy. Instead of creating a new currency, it operates its own payment system to maximize money circulation, strengthening small businesses.

Nourish inclusive community wellbeing and nature, not destructive private wealth.

“When politicians tell us to focus on growth we need to ask: ‘Why, & for whom?’ Isolate growth from public good & you are simply planning for breakdown. A resilient society should be rooted in wellbeing, not wealth“

#PostGrowth #WellbeingEconomy -

Hi #sciencemastadon, just migrated to social.edu.nl. A re-introduction: I'm a researcher working at Wageningen University and Research (#wur), studying the #ecology of #marinemammals (mostly #seals) in the Netherlands or #arctic, analysing #spatial distribution and #habitat selection based on #wildlife #tracking or #drone/ #uav/ #satellite data using #rstats

Also interested in human #behavioural ecology and alternative economic systems like #degrowth/ #postgrowth

Ihr wisst schon, by design oder by disaster. #ÖkonObszön #EconObscene #Degrowth #Postgrowth

🚨 Liberal green policies generate conservative backlash

In the Netherlands, the government’s ‘ecological transition’ plan follows a neoliberal agenda. Policies like ‘true pricing’ (e.g. carbon taxes) claim to tackle the climate crisis but shift the burden onto consumers, worsening inequality.

⚠️ Carbon taxes are regressive. Why should low-income households bear the cost of our economic systems?

A just transition must tackle economic insecurity & inequality alongside climate action. Social wellbeing and ecological objectives must go hand in hand.

💬 What do you think? What narratives should we build so they resonate with the majority of people who are living in precarious conditions?

computingwithinlimits.orgLIMITS 2025 -- Workshop on Computing within Limits

The second session of our 3-year Study Circle on Degrowth & Exnovation is now open to all for registration! Join us in Finland to explore and discuss how to build resilient communities in the midst of collapse, while dismantling the fossil capitalist economy.

nsuweb.org/circle-9-degrowth-a

How are people organizing locally along degrowth principles of sufficiency and conviviality? What challenges do we face, and what tactics can we pursue in establishing ways of living that allow dismantling of harmful organizations, infrastructure, technologies and ideas, that contribute to extractivism and fossil capitalism?

Suggested themes of discussion include initiatives for convivial community-based leisure (let's turn airports into natural recreation areas!), paths towards nowtopias, municipal organizing, neo-ruralism, defense of the commons, convivial conservation, unlearning high-tech and promoting low-tech, among many others.

The session will be part of the Nordic Summer University's summer session, including 8 concurrent study circles on other super-cool topics, which you can also attend: nsuweb.org/activities/summer-s

"Decoupling"? It's possible but extremely unlikely (authors being politic here); "the post-growth field suggests taking a precautionary approach, given the historical record and the rapid narrowing of the window to prevent ecological breakdown. Post-growth, it should be emphasised, does not state that decoupling economic activity from emissions and getting to net zero emissions is impossible, just that it is made harder by economic growth. For energy and material use, which can only be reduced and never brought to zero, the necessary reductions are easier to achieve with post-growth."

Some choice quotes from new Lancet study on #degrowth or #PostGrowth and planetary health:

"Doughnut, wellbeing, and steady-state economics generally position their proposals within the current capitalist system, whereas degrowth is critical of the possibilities of an egalitarian slowdown within capitalism given that capitalist competition is structurally geared towards growth. Degrowth therefore emphasises the need for a planned, democratic transformation of the economic system to drastically reduce ecological impact and inequality and improve wellbeing. Degrowth, similarly to steady-state economics, regards a lower GDP as a probable outcome of efforts to substantially reduce resource use. Reducing GDP is not a goal of these approaches, however, but, it is seen as something that economies need to be made resilient to. The Doughnut and wellbeing approaches are more agnostic about GDP growth, but still view it as a poor measure of progress. Post-growth is plural and open to all these perspectives. All approaches converge on the need for qualitative improvement without relying on quantitative growth, and on selectively decreasing the production of less necessary and more damaging goods and services, while increasing beneficial ones."

Mindfulness vs. Capitalism

you are valuable just the way you are
vs.
you constantly have to accomplish to be worth anything

be content
vs.
be unhappy, so you consume more

look at this beautiful nature
vs.
lets tear it down and build a mall

slow down
vs.
bigger, harder, faster, more dangerouse

declutter
vs.
buy, buy, buy!!!

treat yourself like you would a great friend
vs.
treat your friends like enemies - everybody is your competition

accept yourself and how you feel and act in your situation
vs.
distract yourself with mindless entertainment

#mindfulness is #degrowth

'Capitalism is a catalogue of system errors. It has overturned the principal balance and human health – relentlessly insisting that more is better. It has denigrated care – continually depressing the value of the carer. It has over-stimulated consumer appetites – ruthlessly arousing dissatisfaction. It has accelerated material throughput – dangerously undermining the integrity of the natural world.'
