Amsterdam_XXXThe Oudemanhuispoort courtyard is a hidden gem in the city center. Tucked between Kloveniersburgwal and Oudezijds Achterburgwal, it’s part of a 17th-century complex originally built as a shelter for the elderly. Now owned by the University of Amsterdam, it hosts the Faculty of Humanities and student housing. 👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓🏛️📚 The courtyard is accessed through a covered passage known for its secondhand book market. Amsterdam_XXXIn the middle of the city’s ‘Red Light District’ stands the “Oude Kerk”, the city’s oldest building, founded in 1️⃣3️⃣0️⃣6️⃣. Its vast wooden ceiling, gives the Gothic interior a unique atmosphere. 🧖‍♀️🕯️ The church shifted from Catholic to Protestant after the 1️⃣5️⃣7️⃣8️⃣ Reformation. Many locals were buried here, including some prominent figures, like Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt’s wife. 🪦☠️ 🎨 Now a cultural venue, it hosts exhibitions, concerts & art.
