Sometimes an album really grabs me, becoming one of my favourites, but I never take the time to tour their whole discography. Not even once per album.
This is the case with the Meat Puppets. I discovered the 1994 album Too High to Die a year or two after release, and still listen to it today;

I'm a Meat Puppets fanatic, seen em multiple times, love stuff from all the albums. But only a few of their records I find perfect. I'm not big on their super early stuff. Bits and pieces.
I dig 'Monsters' from 1989 fully, but it's not an 'anytime' kind of record for me. So the first Meat Puppets record I find perfect - an 'anytime' album - is 1991's 'Forbidden Places'.
Has some real alt-country on this one (as most Puppets records do, it's not much, among the blazing guitars). From the first seconds and minutes of "Sam" - I mean, they still play this live. It is WILD. They Might Be Giants covered "Whirlpool". This album is rad, man. From "No Longer Gone" (which was my username on Twitter for many years) 
to the title track, just legendary. Underrated?

This week's #TuneTuesday is #NotAllWhoWanderAreLost, and I have a great one for it. Any reason to listen to the Meat Puppets, really. This song is a simple gem - a true showcase of that Puppets power. This is from 12 years ago, before their original drummer recently came back. I'd never seen this live version before today. Masterful.

I was just thinking the other day how Meat Puppets are EXCELLENT at this. Curt Kirkwood is one of our greatest living songwriters.
The whole 'Rat Farm' record from 2013 is great and deserves a listen. But "Sweet", the last track on it, wow. The lyrics are epic.
Briefly, I threw some of my favorite Meat Puppets songs on a playlist - that isn't to say there's not songs on MANY of their other LPs and EPs I love, but there's nothing before 1989 here. These are my Meat Puppets go-to LPs. To me, all perfect but one, which is close. In chronological order,

I didn't have even a second to find something to listen to this afternoon, so I hit play on the first album I saw on my iPod and ended up listening to #MeatPuppets II on repeat all afternoon. Excellent non-choice.

This week's #TuneTuesday is #lullabies. First one that came to mind is Meat Puppets' "Nursery Rhyme" which is a kind of lullaby, and I'm counting it.
It's from their 2009 album 'Sewn Together', and it's a cool song. The LYRICS! "A computer to fix all the rust and dents". "Out of the fog flew a rubber baby". The whole album is great, too.
