It's an international problem. However, thinking that educational institutions ought to pay their way is an oxymoron. Education, properly described, is the cradle of a better society and its cost ought to solely be a public responsiblilty. One can let private education institution look out for themselves in whichever way 'elitists' choose to fund/run them but they should not receive public funding.

#Health, #education, #shelter and #utilities are public responsiblilites period. They ought not to be in private hands.

compressed version of the NASA archived video:

An Immersive Visualization of the Galactic Center
Video Credit: NASA, CXC, Pontifical Catholic Univ. of Chile, C. Russell et al.

Explanation:
What if you could look out from the center of our Galaxy -- what might you see? Two scientifically-determined possibilities are shown in the featured video, an immersive 360-degree view which allows you to look around in every direction. The pictured computer simulation is based on infrared data from ESO's Very Large Telescope in Chile and X-ray data from NASA's orbiting Chandra X-ray Observatory. As the video starts, you quickly approach Sgr A*, the supermassive black hole in the Galactic center. Then looking out, this 500-year time-lapse simulation shows glowing gas and many points of light orbiting all around you. Many of these points are young Wolf-Rayet stars that have visible hot winds blowing out into surrounding nebulas. Clouds approaching close become elongated, while objects approaching too close fall in. Toward the video's end the simulation repeats, but this time with the dynamic region surrounding Sgr A* expelling hot gas that pushes back against approaching material.

About once a year (may be more frequently) someone in the business press complains about graduates 'not being able to think for themselves' and links this to science-based subjects that reply on 'criteria-based' testing (i.e. exams).

This leads them to suggest that businesses & society in general needs more arts & humanities graduates... but despite calls like Margaret Heffernan's (in the FT today), corporate recruiters still continue to downplay liberal arts education.

The featured picture shows an image of our Milky Way's center by the MeerKAT array of 64 radio dishes in South Africa. Spanning four times the angular size of the Moon (2 degrees), the image is impressively vast, deep, and detailed. Many known sources are shown in clear detail, including many with a prefix of Sgr, since the galactic center is in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. In our galaxy's center lies Sgr A, found here in the image center, which houses the Milky Way's central supermassive black hole. Other sources in the image are not as well understood, including the Arc, just to the left of Sgr A, and numerous filamentary threads. The inset image shows a small patch recently imaged in infrared light with the James Webb Space Telescope to investigate the effects of magnetic fields on star formation.

Education policy needs to be a bigger issue in the US. The lack of attention to education and the gradual reduction in education quality over the past 30 years is, imo, the main cause of American collapse.

Americans don't know their basic rights and voting power, and this is ruthlessly exploited by their leaders on both sides of the aisle to prevent Americans from standing up for themselves in the face of abuses.

Their leaders reinforce American ignorance.

Concernant l'apprentissage de l'#écriture, je n'avais pas encore vu cette grosse initiative brésilienne et googueléenne avec des infos et des fontes pour 68 modèles d'écritures de 40 pays.

"#Primarium is a [...] educational project by TypeTogether which studied the methods of Latin script-based handwriting instruction for primary school children, spanning five continents and about one-quarter of the world.
In early 2022, independent type foundry #TypeTogether embarked on a [...] research project to explore the state of Latin script-based handwriting education in primary schools in over 40 countries [...]. The result of this [...] extensive project is Primarium, a freely accessible resource designed to serve the typographic and educational communities.
The study aims to collect and organise crucial information about #handwriting education in primary schools, including its role in #school curricula, the #handwritingmodels and resources used, and the teaching methods employed in classrooms. In an era where digital devices are increasingly prevalent, the issue of handwriting #education has become a topic of debate in educational, pedagogical, and typographical circles." #typography #lettering

For my Summer CS 200 course I'm thinking of doing the iframes trick again where I put the actual course content on a GitLab webpage and students can view everything via that.

(Plus since it's all orgmode documents, I also assemble EVERYTHING into a PDF so they have one single PDF of the entire course at the end of the semester)

iframes because some students (especially 200 level) are afraid of other websites, like it's overwhelming to have multiple locations to go to.

I found some active accounts from organisations but it seems to be harder to find accounts representing persons.

Can you recommend me any accounts from Switzerland or accounts focussing on AI? :)
