It's always weirded me out that humans think of any (other) animals as pests or invaders in our space, since WE are the ones technically invading THEIR space, as they've already been living on the land for so long.

This is a really cool piece about coyotes, urban wildlife, and co-existing together: biographic.com/the-coyote-next

bioGraphic · The Coyote Next DoorWhat urban wildlife can teach us about cognition, survival, and how to be good neighbors.

"Our observations and data indicate that coyotes are an ambush predator of harbor seal pups in multiple regions along the California coast, including one mainland rookery in which coyotes regularly hunt seals during the pupping season. Due to their large body size and predictable availability, harbor seal pups can serve as a substantial food source for coyote predators that may generate cascading ecological effects in terrestrial ecosystems."

Back out in open fields, Zeena kept looking back towards the woods that we'd just been through. Eventually we spotted a lone coyote, probably the same one, descend an open field on the left, then up and over the hill on the right, where the camera picks up here.

Near the end of our trip, we spotted a lone coyote crossing the trail through the woods ahead, and then respotted it watching us from a rise on the right. It seemed interested in our huskies and certainly had a lot to say!

Zeena was also very interested in the coyote, but wasn't sure what to say other than her usual, "I want to go play with that dog" whine.

These are coyotes, right?

Started yippin and yappin and howlin to a siren. Seemingly right on the other side of our fence. We've heard them before but never during daylight.

This was an excellent way to start the day. <3

In other tragic news, the #NHL #Hockey team that was formerly the #Coyotes and is now called the "Utah Hockey Club" has long been rumored to be gearing up to call themselves the "Utah Yeti".

Which would have been a PERFECT name.

Well, due to the pigheadedness of the capitalists who run both the team and Yeti Coolers, they couldn't come to an agreement, so the Patent/Trademark office said they couldn't use Yeti for the team name.

"We engaged deeply with Yeti Cooler Company and worked with them over a process to see if there was some coexistence agreement that we could engage with them on," said Maughan. "They have a unique and strong trademark on anything published Yeti or Yetis. We did not have a coexistence agreement with Yeti and therefore have decided to move on from that name."

I mean, talk about a golden opportunity wasted all because of greed.

So stupid on both parts.

Yeti Coolers would have gotten SUCH a boost from fans. And it's Hockey! Ice and Coolers go together! And Beer! And Coolers! And Hockey! C'mon! You idiots!!

👀😮 A #coyote was captured while hiding inside the produce at a #Chicago #Aldi grocery store. 🙀

The coyote had apparently entered through the front door. He is now safely at a #wildlife rehabilitation center, where his health will be evaluated before being released back into the wild.
