From the same time as the B+W shots (though it probably matters not at all, I shoot the B+W photos that way, rather than converting in editing) another calf, still curious but trying to act tough! #Calves are super frisky, curious, #cute

A small black calf (with faint reddish tones and a bit of white on its belly) looks toward me from maybe 8-10 metres away across a barbed wire fence. It is curious about me but at the moment has adopted a threatening or defensive posture, mostly sideways to me, but facing me with front legs apart and head down looking straight at me. the ground in front and around is low grazed dry brown grass, with some longer grass in blur along the fenceline in front, and in back with the bottoms of spruce trees behind the fence in back. In front of that rear fence, the width of the photo, is a strip of remnant snow, a hand or two deep. Between the calf and the snow stands a cow, facing away from us. She is black with some white on her belly we can see a little of, and from the partial view of her face we can see that is white also. The calf has tags in each ear a thick small one in the middle of its left ear, to our right, possibly some marking on it. In the other ear is a thin green plastic tag hanging down with handwritten 36 on it.

Looking ahead up a snowy secondary highway. There are car tracks through the snow on both sides, but the snow is still falling and those tracks are also partly snowed over. On both sides are snow-filled ditches with dried grass showing through, bordered by wire and post fences, On the left scattered spruce trees- not too tall but very bushy as if pruned, follow the fenceline, and much farther on, snowblurred is the shadow of a mature mixed wood stand.On the right, a power line with T-poles follows the fenceline, with a snowy field inside, and in midframe some mid height thick dark (but snow lightened) spruce trees go to right and head-presumably surrounding a farm yard. It's snowing and overcast and sky and ground are a similar offwhite, made slightly violet with a filter, edges blurred.

Looking right across a snowy roadside ditch with a speed limit sign to the left that says Maximum 80(km/hr). A wavy (weakened/slightly falling in places) fence stands between the ditch and a rural property. The fence is composed of many upright posts and horizontal boards with spaces between them, all in somewhat faded whitewash or white paint. Inside the fence are a a number of snowy spruce trees to right, along with a few branches and various saplings of poplar, along with other small woodies here and there and clumps of dried grass near the fence. At centre frame stands a dark horse with a white blaze down its face, pointed slightly to the right but looking toward the camera. Farther back is wire and post fence and in the next field we see the backs of several dump/gravel type trucks parked next to the fence. Considerably farther we can see snow blurred trees and an old barn. It's snowing and overcast and sky and ground are a similar off white, made slightly violet with a filter, edges blurred.

Our wet weather has continued, rain turning to #snow yesterday morning. Luckily we didn't get anything close to the forecast possible totals (15-20cm by today)- we had a few inches handful of cm, we did a preliminary -slushy!- shovelling yesterday, but only another cm or less by this afternoon. Still more chances today/tomorrow.

A section of driveway with a handful of cm/several inches of fresh wet snow shovelled to the right (on top of previously remaining snow pile), with the ground still mostly white with snow remnants and slush from the rain and meltwater soaked ground as the snow began. To the right we see the bottoms of a row of snow coated spruce trees, and ahead as the driveway curves to the right is a mix of spruce and poplar trees, along with a low 'fence' made from narrow planks of wood set on top of low vertical chunks of log.

An open tangle of many thin stems and branches of maple, rowan, willow and cherry, all coated in snow on an overcast, darkening late afternoon. Near centre a small, long needled pine stands out with its much heavier coating of snow. Beyond is a bit of an open snowy area then a line of trees, with lots of dark spruce. All snow coated as well.

Looking up a gravel country road. There is mud-splashed snow on both sides and centre with double tire tracks that are mostly clear of snow, with puddles, mud and slush. In the distance we see wetland and woodland to the sides of the road. The day is overcast.

Looking over the roof (out of view below) we see part of the tops of three spruce trees and a bit of a poplar. These spruce trees are a bit skinny- lots of branches, we don't see too much of the trunk, but the branches are a bit long and thin and floppy, especially the two that are one to each side. Those two are natural dark green. The one we see in the centre, farther back is just a bit more compact and since we are only seeing the very top, it is all coated in frost (as is the top of a poplar we see in front of it). This would have been from freezing fog, and clearly it moved through rather high up as only some of the tips of trees were coated. Behind the sky is blue.

Looking down at the ground covered in a little more than an inch, maybe 3 cm of fresh fluffy smooth snow.Left of centre is a path which goes from lower left to upper centre, where it branches off to left and right. It is surrounded by mounds of snow to left, right, and at the top of the frame. The morning sun is from the left, so the left mound is casting a strong blue shadow, the other spots vary from nearly white in sunny spots to soft shadows from trees etc. The mound on the right is the edge of a rock garden covered in fallen and shovelled snow, and just where it meets the path a single dried plant around a foot 30 cm tall sticks partly out of the snow with many dried brown stems and old seed heads, and lightly covered with fresh snow as well.

In front of the view described below, a good sized black cat is hunkered on top of a fence on the single horizontal rail in an otherwise wire and post fence. It is just above a plywood sign with faded lettering that used to say Please Close Gate Cattle at Large. The cat is trying to not be seen, making itself almost as flat as possible in this position, head and ears down. We can see its light coloured eyes and a line of sun highlight on the ridge of its back.
Looking across pasture over the tops of upright board wind fences, with a snowy field beyond, then some dark trees in the distance and hazy blue mountains on the horizon. The sky has some linear clouds high up, some minor jumbly clouds above the mountains, a little dull blue showing through in the middle. The clouds range from near white to medium grey, all kissed with pre-sunset gold to light orange.

A few metres away, now we are looking back at the cat through some saplings, small trees etc, with a wooden fence and some spruce trees on the other side of the small corral/pasture. It is watching me closely, clearing nervous, ready to flee. I stayed far enough away that it did not have to.

Same view as previous, but zoomed/cropped closer and lighter overall and the cat is more in focus. We can better see its golden eyes and shiny black fur.

1/2 #Caturday After checking the mail yesterday, I was coming back and looking toward the mountains across the neighbours'.I was about to walk a bit more in that direction for a clearer view but then saw this person (next post) on the fence! Not sure if it's the neighbours' or just a wanderer- I think they sleep at least part time under the old fallen house on our property..

Looking across a snowy pasture at sunset. The foreground is blue-grey snow in dusky cloudy shadow, but the snow is not deep and you can see bits of dry grass poking through, and a long line of dark lumps where soil was disturbed or possibly where manure from corrals was dumped- or simply where the cattle have been feeding as this extends from their hay bale holder. At the left of this we can see the back half one dark and silhouetted cow standing. Behind the snowy area is band of low willows (low compared to trees, but a bit taller than a person)- the growth is a dense dark mass of branches and trunks no more than an inch or two diameter, with occasional small poplars sticking up a bit higher. Beyond that we have a glimpse of another snowy field, with some more trees farther back over the crest of a hill, then distant foothills. The foothills are dark blue grey sunset tinted and softened by the blowing snow which in turn blends them into the orange and dark mountains behind which are half hidden, enveloped in swirling drifting snow? low cloud? Behind this veil of thin moving vapour or snow is a golden orange area with some fluffy clouds moving over the mountains then above that the sky is medium to dark blue-grey cloud, with the orangey twists from below softening the edges.

between a wire and post fence with mixed wood behind on the right and open mixed woods to the left is a narrow cleared area. Close to where the viewer stands, a tree has fallen from the left across this open area. The tree broke as it fell and the upper part fell back toward the left, so it missed the fence on the right. The trunk is something like 12-15 inches 30-40cm diameter at the widest part, with many small and large branches on the ground, all lightly covered in fresh snow.

I decided to make a longer #video ca 10 mins (editing is..fun..lol) Cutting #firewood in the #bush on a couple of recent #cold days
I make noise with tarps, crunch around on snow, use a chainsaw + wood splitting maul (big heavy axe- don't call it an axe..lol). Lots of ASMR some plain old noise + jibber jabber as I talk + pretty #forest views of frost crystals falling
