Pollievre lost his seat. In a night of neo-nazis eating shit, that is the shit-eatingest shit-eating I could have hoped for even before I stopped hoping for good things because it yielded too fucking much disappointment. #canadavotes2025

There's so much more I want to talk about, but given that this is my first time as a poll worker in Canada, I'll refrain until more than 60 days after the election because that's how long the DRO has to keep their copy of the Statement of Vote in their home.

I sure hope my DRO has a safe.

Things I Learned about Canada's federal elections:

1. Voters are "electors".

2. When you greet an elector, you must say "Hello, bonjour". Unless you are in Quebec, where you would say "Bonjour, hello" instead.

3. It is the job of individual poll workers known as Deputy Returning Officers (DROs) to count the ballots. If a candidate's representative disputes whether a specific ballot is marked for their candidate, it's the DRO who decides whether the objection will stand. 1/ #CanadaVotes2025

Getting ahead of my poll worker training tonight, going forward, I am going to refrain from writing anything else about any of the federal candidates for this year's election. However, depending on what else I learn in training, I might talk about what it was like helping seniors vote in care homes.

My goal would be encouraging everyone who can to consider becoming a poll worker for the next municipal or provincial elections. #CanadaVotes2025

Got a call from Elections Canada yesterday, who asked me if I was still interested in working the federal election as a poll worker and I said yes. They gave me my choice of assignments; I took the one where I'll be going along with one other poll worker to senior care homes to make sure that all of those who are eligible to and want to can cast their ballots.

I'm so glad to be a poll worker again.

In-person VOTING TIP for #Canadians for this weekend…

When you've marked your ballot and folded it up again, do the poll worker a favour and bend the little tearoff tab back-and-forth, crease it, maybe start the tear for them.

They tear very poorly at the perforations and that slows down the processing.

Just a tiny little thing but it helps!

I did it too and it made that step by the poll worker very quick and easy.

Vote early in the Canadian Federal Election until April 22! 🇨🇦 Employers must give you time off to vote. Choose from 500 locations nationwide, often better located, to beat the lines. Don't wait for Easter weekend or Election Day ~ vote the quickest way! 🗳️
