Study links a child's early #social environment to the development of the #brain
If you made a list of things that could advance the field of science, having a mouse watch “The Matrix” and “Star Wars” probably wouldn’t make it to the top. And yet, scientists recently were able to map and render into a 3D atlas a small portion of a mouse’s brain about the size of a grain of sand. The results were a revelation. “"A millimeter seems small, but within that millimeter there are kilometers of wiring," Jacob Reimer, a neuroscientist at Baylor College of Medicine said. New ‘wiring diagram’ traces millions of brain connections
Researchers say they’ve accomplished a feat that was said to be impossible 46 years ago: mapping the cells in a cubic millimeter of brain tissue and tracing their activity.
The achievement, documented today in a set of research papers published by the Nature family of journals, is being c

They said it couldn't be done ... but neuroscientists have successfully mapped all the cells in a cubic centimeter of #brain tissue, and have traced how the neurons fire. What makes you YOU? Your personality, your overall psychological makeup, resides largely in the prefrontal cortex. It's where #emotions, memories and most of your heavy thinking happens. But since it leads the way, literally packed up against your forehead, it's vulnerable to damage in any head injury. The psychiatrist/neuroscientists explains why protecting it and giving it sufficient rest time are so important. https://medium.com/wise-well/a-users-guide-to-your-powerful-fragile-prefrontal-cortex-4335832a1d61 ?sk=27afdeb7960774def8a7c69cdfbeb6ed #neuroscience #brain #mentalhealth
