The majority of car trips in the US are less than 3 miles, and there are plenty of people for whom owning a car is a huge (often insurmountable) cost burden. Here's Lyft providing a great statement of Lyft's values in #bikenyc: subsidizing congestion, while also increasing #bikeshare prices, and using #citibike infrastructure to promote car trips.
Note, too, that all of the bikes in the station are #ebikes, meaning that they require a per-minute user fee.

This is why there are so many left and right hooks (and countless near-misses) along Manhattan's unidirectional #bikelanes in #bikenyc.
Meanwhile in #KingstonNY, drivers are accustomed to turning right *at full speed* through red lights without stopping or scanning the crosswalks. Kingston needs to implement LPIs.
