#NowPlaying: 'Queen I' by Queen (1973 - 2024 Remaster).

Wife's birthday today and I got her this. The complete remaster and remix of Queen's debut album, which always sounded a bit ropey.

This is like listening to it for the first time. Plus the addition of a track that was destined for the album but left off the original pressing has now earned this version the moniker 'I'.

#PattiSmith #GodmotherOfPunk #Punk #ArtRock #NewWave #GarageRock #AlternativeRock #Folk

JOY DIVISION
Substance
2015 U.S. 2xLP reissue

I think this is the greatest compilation of any band’s body of work ever released.

I can’t imagine what it’s like for somebody who’s never heard a note of Joy Division’s music to experience this front to back. From the early Warsaw songs included, to the Unknown Pleasures tracks, to both versions of Love Will Tear Us Apart, to Transmission…
It’s an astonishing introductory course for one of the most important rock bands ever.

The fact that some of these songs still make the hairs on my arm and neck stand up after all these years of listening to them is testament to all four of these men.

Just an astonishing body of work in such a brief period of time.

My son is in the throes of discovering them at the moment. He requested I put this on.
Transmission is his jam.

Talk Talk – Laughing Stock (1991, UK)

Our next spotlight is on number 908 on The List, submitted by arratoon. This is Talk Talk's fifth and final album, their decidedly uncommercial, bare, free-form masterpiece, created out of hours upon hours of 50 musicians improvising in darkness.
