epicanis
#WordWeavers APR 13: “How dangerous is your MC?”

This is a more subtle and nuanced question than it might seem. Dangerous to who or what? Dangerous in what way? Immediately, or over time? Intentionally or unintentionally?

Al actually makes a sustained, conscious effort to have his presence and actions generally result in reduction of overall danger, so in that regard he’s the opposite of dangerous.

If one is using a crassly simplistic metric like “if you put him in a fight to the death with someone/something, would he win?”, then the answer is “somewhat dangerous”. He’s not currently especially “powerful” in the context of the overall setting, but by the standards of ordinary typical people he’s reached a noteworthy degree of potency. If he was a completely different kind of person he’d be able to cause a lot of death and destruction before he was stopped.

Upgrade that to “moderately” dangerous if you include his influence as the reluctant “leader” of the small band of weirdos that he travels with.

That’s as of where we are currently in the ongoing serial. If we consider how potentially dangerous he is… well, Empirical Gnollage is one of those stories where the protagonists progressively gain knowledge, hone their skills, and undergo changes as the events continue. As a wizard, Al’s potential dangerousness might not be as blatantly obvious as it would be if his studies were about making things explode, but an interest in otherworldly beings and the boundaries between realities can be dangerous in some terrible ways.

Kagan MacTane (he/him)
Angel wants to be dangerous to established power structures and hierarchies. Although they're not as committed to that fight as they were when they were a teenager, it's still very much a part of their consciousness and day-to-day life.

As the book progresses, my MCs all *want* to be dangerous to the villains and their plans. How much they succeed in that, and how much Angel succeeds in their desires of dangerousness, are things they'll all discover. 2/2

#WordWeavers

But like most martial artists, she uses it only in defense of herself and others; if you don't cause any trouble, you'll be completely safe around her.

Carlos is a librarian and researcher, and would tell you with no hesitation that knowledge is the greatest power. That makes him dangerous in other ways (and he relishes that). 1/2

Our Hero and all Standard Bodied™ people can be classified as Mass Destruction People. With that body, they can do things that most people can only see in fiction, and that includes destroying themselves and taking half of a city with them, and living to tell the story. Very damaged but that can be fixed, btw. Add the magic they can wield, and we have a potential World Class Disaster walking among us (and in high heels) =)
