Today's historic photo of the day: A class 37 exactly 37 years ago today. English Electric Type 3 diesel locomotive 37422 sits at the head of a Glasgow-bound British Rail West Highland Line #train from Oban at the junction station of Crianlarich, Scotland, UK, April 22 1988.

Crianlarich is 96km north-west of Glasgow by rail, served by West Highland line trains from Glasgow that from Crianlarich run either north to Fort William and Mallaig or west to Oban.

A front-on view of a diesel locomotive hauled passenger train stopped at a passenger platform in the highlands of Scotland. A partly snow-covered mountain is on on the horizon behind the train. The locomotive is a class 37 unit with the driving cab windows set back above the low curved-top yellow painted nose. The modest station buildings on the platform at left appear to be of fairly recent construction.

This is a ScotRail train crossing Great Western Road at Anniesland station. The blue of the train, pink of the cherry trees and yellow of the late daffodils caught my eye

I usually don't post-process my photographs but I had this effect in mind when I took the shot, so it is an integral part of it. (I obtained the effect by dialing up the exposure and the saturation in darktable.)

The train is various shades of blue with a white X in dots overlaid on it. It is crossing on metal bridge, a shallow arch with V-shaped struts, lots of huge rivets. Under the bridge you see the cherry trees in rows along the road, daffodils at their feet.

Well THAT was a memorable gig. The duo I play in is on a #SantaFe #train. While we’re seated in tall chairs playing, train suddenly goes over SUPER rough (~1880s?) rail and the whole train car SWAYS HARD and suddenly it feels like train car is tipping over BUT NO it’s my CHAIR falling fwd, me SMASHING into seats across aisle while holding my bass high (it survived fine) but I CRASHED HARD onto my left kneecap which is now all swollen. Bleeding, I played rest of gig though! 😎 #NewMexico #music
