How the Kindle Lost China
Tbh the idea that one is locked in to buying from one store doesn't compute to the Asian mind. We like options. We like the ability to leave and buy from others. So I am not surprised it didn't take off in China, where ebook readers have a more unwalled garden approach, and you can customize it as much as you can.
Recently I broke my Boox Leaf 2
. I was very tempted to buy a Kobo because it was so well built and we'll designed, but I settled with a Boox Go 6 instead because I want the freedom to access multiple stores. It's definitely not as pretty but is 40% cheaper than the Kobo Libra.
So my Go reader now has a library eith DRM free ebooks, Amazon and Google Books. I also have Pleco, which enables me to read Chinese ebooks with ease. I won't sacrifice this freedom, sorry.
