The problem with discussing RFK Jr's attacks on autistic Americans is that we're talking about two separate, but deeply intertwined issues. Kennedy is indisputably pushing a reactionary conspiracy theory about vaccines causing autism to justify a HHS "study" that will undoubtedly "confirm" his conspiracy. Furthermore the Health and Human Services Secretary's comments about autistic people are factually wrong, ablest, eugenicist, and dehumanizing. In other words, even if you believe there's nothing but sheer ignorance and hubris behind RFK Jr's behavior, everything about his fraudulent quest to "fix" autism is insulting, reactionary, and dangerous.

The truth however is that none of this is happening in a vacuum; Kennedy does work for a fascist regime employing eliminationist rhetoric, Kennedy himself has already demonstrated a profound disregard for human lives, and the unhinged eugenicist themes in RFK Jr's arguments about autistic children in particular, do point to an even darker purpose behind his odious actions. Listening to Kennedy speak, one is forced to wonder what he intends to do when, not if, it turns out he can't "fix" the existence of autistic people? Which is why news that the National Institutes of Health is now compiling highly sensitive and identifying medical records, as well as creating "a national registry to track Americans with autism" is extremely alarming.

RFK Jr. Seeks Broad Access to Health Records for “Autism Research”

"Disability advocates argue that rather than investing in surveillance-style data collection or reviving long-debunked theories, the federal government should be focusing on supporting the needs of autistic people. This includes funding home care, accessible education, and individualized services. However, the Trump administration has stalled disability rights cases, moved to cut health care funding, and is attempting to dismantle disability protections in public schools."

Hey, if so-called "conservatives" want me to stop comparing the Trump regime to the Nazi Party, they should stop doing the exact same things Hitler and his minions did on the road to Auschwitz. There are literally no good reasons whatsoever for the US government to be compiling a "national registry" of autistic Americans, and that's without even considering that the HHS Secretary seems to regard them as something less than human and a drag on "productive" society.

The first thing a fascist government has to do if it wants to mass target specific groups of people in our society for confinement, suppression, or elimination is to establish lists of targets; which is why the Trump regime is funneling previously restricted government data on migrants to ICE, and anti-trans eliminationist GOP officials keep demanding the medical records of trans people. Now I'm supposed to pretend its totally fine to give identifying medical data on autistic Americans to a fascist collaborator conspiracy crank who doesn't care if his woo nonsense kills children, and considers autistic people to be broken and in need of fixing? Are you fucking kidding me? There is no way you can convince me that this story ends well.

I can't predict the future, but everything about Kennedy's time in government so far tells me that dismissing him as a woo-reactionary crank is a mistake. We're talking about a guy who claims to be trying to "solve" autism, while simultaneously lying about, demonizing, and dehumanizing autistic people on live TV. Kennedy knows his anti-vax rhetoric is bullshit, he knows that he's not going to "cure" his "epidemic." If he didn't know before he took the job, there were plenty of actual doctors at HHS already who told him so; to say nothing of the numerous advocates, rights agencies, and autistic people themselves who've pointedly told Kennedy how harmful and unwelcome his efforts to "help" have been.

So if RFK Jr knows without a doubt that none of this ends in helping autistic people at all, what's his plan? Let me make that question even easier; can you think of any possible way whatever Kennedy is trying to do is about helping autistic people, or public health? You don't build a surveillance apparatus to monitor a targeted group in society unless you intend to use it. What about anything Kennedy has said or done suggests to you that he intends to use it to accomplish anything good? Right, the best scenario I can come up with is legalizing quack "therapies" to prey on parents willing to try and "torture the autism out" of their kids, and every other scenario I can think of is arguably even more fascist, eliminationist, and terrifying.

Everything about Kennedy's behavior so far points towards something horrifying and sinister; RFK Jr isn't your drunk uncle, he's a danger to us all that must be stopped before its too late to dodge a eugenicist nightmare.

"I have spent nearly all of my career at Harvard and one of its affiliated hospitals, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in academic surgery and public health. For the past three years, I took a leave to lead the Global Health Bureau at the U.S. Agency for International Development, under the Biden Administration. There I saw firsthand the consequences—in diminished lifespans and economies—of governments with rulers controlling “viewpoint diversity” in civil institutions. At the end of President Biden’s term, I returned to my surgery department, only to watch in dismay, soon after, as the agency was demolished in a matter of weeks. Now the Trump Administration was seeking to do to the university what it had done to U.S.A.I.D. and other federal agencies: defund vital programs, purge and traumatize the staff, and place political reins on what remained.

With U.S.A.I.D., President Donald Trump proved willing to impose catastrophic consequences, including widespread death and financial waste. But that was for people and investments far away. His attacks on universities involve lives and investments here at home.

These attacks are part of a broader assault on America’s health-and-science infrastructure. More than ninety per cent of the nine billion federal dollars for Harvard that are now in danger supports life sciences, primarily through the National Institutes of Health. The university itself receives only a fraction of this funding. Three-quarters of it goes to five independent Boston hospitals affiliated with its medical school: Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The threatened defunding, if implemented, would choke off science and research across all of them."

The New Yorker · The Cost of Defunding HarvardBy Atul Gawande

President Donald Trump’s administration appears to be killing much, if not all, of a historic initiative that was the first, and is still the largest, National Institutes of Health (NIH) effort centered on the health needs of women. The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) has enrolled tens of thousands of participants in clinical trials of hormones and other medications and tracked the health of many thousands more over more than 3 decades. Its findings have had a major influence on health care. WHI leaders announced yesterday that contracts supporting its regional centers are being terminated in September and that the study’s clinical coordinating center, based at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, “will continue operations until January 2026, after which time its funding remains uncertain.” #WomensRights #WomensHealth #PublicHealth #Misogyny #RepublicansDidThis #RepublicansOwnThis

"Whooping cough has been increasing since the early 2000s, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, with about 10,000 reported cases each year. The spread slowed during the pandemic lockdown, as many infectious illnesses did, but cases are rising once again...Vaccine hesitancy in general is playing a major role in the increase."

The 2021 study found 52 #cancer cases among people living within 1.5 km of the plant, a prevalence 44% higher than national levels, producing 36 cases.
That translates to an additional 16 people, out of a sample of 777, who contracted cancer within the previous 23yrs, said Ruhan Nagra, lead author & a #law prof at the U of Utah.
Within a 2nd concentric circle extending to a radius from 1.5 to 2.5 km from the plant, cancer rates dropped to virtually even w/the national level.

One peer-reviewed 2021 study, the only one to examine effects in the surrounding community, found elevated levels of #cancer & other maladies for people living closest to the plant.

Denka dismissed this field survey, which was prompted by concerns from a community advocacy group & led by the progressive University Network for #HumanRights, as "flawed & biased" & cited an #EPA assessment that called it "uninformative."

Denka criticized #Biden’s #EPA reliance on the data that assumed affected people would have to breathe chloroprene emissions 24 hrs a day for 70 yrs. Moreover, Denka said the plant's #emissions were reduced 85% after a $35M upgrade completed in 2018.
