and, for this good ol' #GratefulDead cast, i found some cool interviews with the late gilbert baker to illustrate the very dead-adjacent (& almost unknown) story of how the rainbow flag was first envisioned (on LSD) on the dead’s home turf at #SanFrancisco's winterland, during a #PattiSmith gig in 1978, an unexpected connection between #lgbtq history & the #psychedelic world. dead.net/deadcast/enjoying-rid heads.social/@bourgwick/113743 /3

The Guardian · Patti Smith to publish ‘intimate’ new memoir, Bread of AngelsBy Lucy Knight

Fun fact: I have three cousins (all siblings) who are roughly 14-17 years older than me and who babysat me quite a bit when I was a young kid in the 70s. (and funnily I've always been much closer to them than to my cousins who are my age). One of the biggest impact they had on me at that young age is music. They were from the countryside, not very educated, so they mostly listened to whatever was very mainstream at the time, but somehow they were not into French music (and I suspect that's one of the reasons I've never been either). Because it was the 70s, they mostly listened to disco (and my disco-fu is much more developed than it should be for someone my age) but in the middle of all that, they were some gems, including this song.

It's one of the songs I basically don't remember discovering, I grew up with it (and I hadn't heard it in so many years until I stumbled upon an amazing cover by Garbage and Screaming Females - I'll post the link after this one).

So (to be read with the voice of the announcer at the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks the Return): "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Patti Smith!!!"
