A Tale of Two Shitties... [1]

I've always done my own seasonal tire changes on my vehicle and my partner's as well. When I first started many years ago, I bought a cheapie 2-ton trolley #jack from Princess Auto - USAnians can substitute "Harbor Freight" and the story will be essentially the same.

But I replaced my vehicle a year and a half ago. The new one rides a little higher off the ground, and has the massive #wheels and #tires that have become the de facto standard, and my old jack didn't lift high enough to change the wheels on the new vehicle. Being the better part of 20 years newer, the new vehicle is also a lot heavier.

So I bought a larger 3-ton trolley jack, with a higher lift height. It's even a real name brand, #Torin. [2]

So anyways... I went to take the snow tires off on the weekend, and the new jack had #leaked, and won't lift properly. So it's sprung an o-ring or other #seal, after only using it 3 times (I think). The 20-year-old Princess Auto special is still fine. They sit next to each other in the garage, so it's not storage conditions.

Winner: Princess Auto.

Then, while changing tires, one lug #nut was #seized. Got out a decent sized breaker bar, and a 1/2" to 3/8" socket drive adapter from Princess Auto - their "pro" "Pro Point" line, yet - put my back into it, and #sheared the damn adapter off.

I noticed my #NUT server giving me issues with loosing connection to the #UPS randomly.

Logs just show "Data Stale" or when I restart the NUT server shows " Driver Connection Error", only way could fix that issue is/was to unplug the USB to the UPS.

Well frustrated with this, I have written a udev rule file to hard coded it with a symlink, altered the "ups.conf" file and change port from "auto" to new port.

So lets see if this fixes it, meantime anyone else setup #PSD1600 with NUT?

They also raise the possibility that nut-flavoured alcoholic drinks, even those made with artificial flavouring, could still expose people to trace allergens and increase the risk of severe reaction. More broadly, the study found patterns between the triggers and symptoms of anaphylaxis, an allergic reaction that can be fatal within minutes if untreated. Food was found to be the most common trigger, responsible for over half of cases. Among these, tree nuts stood out for their strong link to throat tightness compared to other allergens. Reactions from the venom of insect stings were more likely to trigger heart-related problems like a decrease in blood pressure. Bridging data gaps in adult anaphylaxis Anaphylaxis is most often caused by food, bug bites or medications. While doctors often treat it effectively with epinephrine, the authors say they rarely understand why certain triggers cause specific symptoms, a knowledge gap that can delay diagnosis and treatment. “For doctors, spotting patterns could mean faster, life-saving treatment in emergencies. For people with allergies, understanding the role of alcohol and other triggers can help them make safer choices,” said lead author Roy Khalaf, a fourth-year medical student in McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. "With the holiday season’s abundance of nut-based treats and specialty beverages, the risk of accidental exposure to allergens requires careful attention,” he said. The findings may also have implications for labelling practices in the food and beverage industry, he added, emphasizing the importance of clear allergen information to protect consumers. The study, published in International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, is one of the first large-scale Canadian efforts to investigate anaphylaxis in adults, an area the researchers say lacks data. They analyzed data from over 1,100 cases treated in Canadian emergency rooms over 10 years. Next, the team aims to explore milder reactions outside of emergency care and investigate the connection between nuts and alcohol to improve allergy management. The study was a collaborative effort orchestrated by Dr. Ben-Shoshan, Assistant Professor, Division of Allergy and Immunology and Clinical Dermatology, Montreal Children's Hospital, McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). It included researchers from the University of Calgary, the University of British Columbia, Memorial University, McMaster University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Manitoba.
