Almost hidden within a pile of maple leaves and tucked into the roots of a tree, stands a solitary, spiky haired creature of unknown origin. Arms outstretched, with a slight scowl on its face, it appears to be thinking of something important - perhaps what it would like to eat for lunch. Crammed into a doorway, between the night landscape outside and brightness within, an anxious assortment of strange beasties are wedged together. Some appear puzzled, others gleeful, most are simply curious. One bold orange creature leaps with abandon into the glowing space, joining several floating/flying books and strangely shaped objects. Their mysterious adventure continues...

As another day ends and darkness falls,
worries begin to grow. The monsters realize they
are now far away from their homes and entering
a world that no one has ever been before.

Anxious whispers and tearful sobs burst out.
"Beware! Beware! one monster pleads.
There is danger ahead!" But no one has stopped
for sleep this night. The leaders keep them
marching, marching, towards a distant light.

One large monster dramatically shares his anxiety with a little blue monster, while another has its arm around its back. Teacups. Tiny monsters.
Enjoying a peaceful moment to themselves. Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness. This sleepy creature drank a bit too much sweet jasmine tea and found it hard to stay awake. Shhhhhh...

Monsters have babies too.
Baby monsters are even harder to find than the elusive "baby" pigeon. Very few folks can say that they've seen them, let alone created their portraits. I have been lucky. As you might imagine, monster parents can be a bit protective. Mothers in particular. They consider us (humans) more than a bit strange and potentially dangerous. It took most of my free time, lots of monster "treats" and carefully followed Monster Etiquette to befriend just a few of them. Even then, I felt a bit nervous and on edge as I made sketches of their most beloved offspring. It is always a good idea to remind oneself that monsters are ultimately unpredictable creatures, and should be given proper respect at all times.

It nervously stares (at me) with large bulging eyes, while the other hand is clamped firmly in its mouth. My REAL Imaginary Friend
Some say that friends must be actual physical beings to count as REAL. Why, I ask? I have REAL imaginary friends who are quite lovely and can be most helpful in a pinch. When I'm having a really bad day, need a bit of advice, or if I'm just feeling blue, my REAL imaginary friends are exactly the ones I want around for comfort. No complaining or whining about THEIR troubles. No attention sucking smart phones to distract them from listening to you. And, the best part is, you can call up the exact friend for listening or guidance when needed, instantly!
