One of the major hits in this year's Raya songs is Mimifly's Serumpun (which also has a dance portion with stylized Malaysian Sign Language) and one of the more enjoyable things I've seen are the various dance vids being performed to it (the title means "of the same root/source/group" and in her MV it was explicit with how she had other people showing up Nusantara/SEAsian native attire) from various Malaysians *AND* SEAns especially if you're in the aforementioned Nusantara grouping so I've seen videos from as far north as Cambodia. Anyway, this must be the fault of my algorithm because while I'm getting gorgeous Malaysian Indian dancers in full traditional attire why is the only properly choreographed non-nyonya non-baju Melayu videos from Malaysian Chinese is this Zumba video clearly from somewhere in my neighbourhood if the basketball court in the local park doesn't give it away... I guess at this point that's a cultural dress....

@cendawanita I am not sure what the point of this post is, but I want to share my perspective. Please do not blame specific ethnic groups solely, but rather the politicians and political parties that use ethnicity as justification to gain votes at the cost of the well-being of other ethnicities. Malaysia is not a country at war, and if you are Malaysian, please remember the five national principles. Everybody deserves to be respected without discrimination or harm.

So over the weekend in SEA/nusantara socmed it was a bit popping on my feed because of two unrelated things, but they're all revolving around southeast asia as the Balkans of Asia (iykyk) and in the middle of the well-deserved lashings being poured on Malaysian transphobes suddenly this Thai account was like, lol Malaysia is a neocolonial project to destabilize the region, and most people are like, 1) wtf does that make you; 1a) axis collaborator; 1a-ii) collaborated so hard you simped for Hirohito and Hitler.

Anyway, the point of all that is that I'm being reminded that in a lot (A LOT) of border territories in the maritime SEA, and no judgement, you will not find it strange to find Malaysian flags as part of the local separatist expressions 😭😭😭 whyyyy don't get us involved (it's related to sociocultural facts about what constituted the "Malay World") #tootSEA #malaysia

It came to my mind as an independent person that our goal as Malaysians is not to win anything. We don't want to win any war that others may provoke; we are just here in the world to study, get jobs or do business, make money, and worship and repent to God because being alive every day is a blessing to submit to God. Like what my cousin in the Malaysian military said, Malaysia is not a country at war. We have God to worship, responsibilities to maintain (family and religious teachings), and five national principles:

1. Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan
2. Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara
3. Keluhuran Perlembagaan
4. Kedaulatan Undang-Undang
5. Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan

We are very Malaysian if we put in the effort and make all these principles a reality in ourselves. We're not powerful; we're Malaysians.

If we depend on other countries, it's not healthy either. We have a history with foreign entities: the British, the Japanese, and the Portuguese; they colonized us and exploited us for resources. Then, China's presence encroaches into our EEZ. Philippine politicians are claiming Sabah. It seems to me that we have no one to trust, not even ourselves. It seems to me that it's best for the government to just go with the flow, enjoy the world, maintain our stability, and engage in politics and democracy while doing what is best at the moment, including being friends with both China and the US, Australia, and the countries you mentioned. Yes, better training with them than doing nothing. We are a relatively new country, lacking in many resources, knowledge, and ideologies, and we have been exploited. The local politicians are also corrupt. We just do what we are capable of at the moment, being ourselves. #malaysia #politics #politicalscience #sabah #philippines #china #usa #australia #uk

I'm sure those people in the category you mentioned will be offended and will try to befriend me, telling me everything to brainwash me into following their identity or ideologies. I had one friend like that. They played the victim and wanted me to vote for ******n *******l. I'm glad I didn't. At that time, I was a novice in politics and I voted for anyone except what my friend requested, ******n *******l. For many reasons, I couldn't be myself with that friend; since then, we have drifted apart and are no longer friends. This is the blessing. #malaysia #politics #censorship #politicalscience #political #democracy #freedom #freedomofspeech
