MDMRNNew Read - Wanted Have you ever read something that you wanted to like, but didn't? That's how I felt reading "Wanted." Basic premise - A poor, young girl becomes good friends / falls in love with a young boy who is, in from a very wealthy family. The boy is kidnapped by pirates! The girl then, when she turns 15 (which is treated like an adult...it most certainly is not), leaves home, pretends to be a man, and tries to find the pirate that kidnapped her love. Well, the original Dread Pirate Roberts (this is a joke, but yea - same plot point as The Princess Bride) retired and her former flame is now the new pirate captain. And they steal from the rich to give and help impoverished communities. I kept wanting to like it, but I didn't. From the sudden flashing of the teenage girl's breast to deal with an injury early in the manga, to the emotional / mental abuse from her former flame throughout the story, it's all not good. He's going to neg her into liking him again, kind of, but also being heroic at times, not that it matters. No, it was all very that. These are teenagers acting the fool while being treated as adults. They're not. And, I guess that's good writing cause it very much shows. I don't know. Also, as it's only really 3 chapters long, it just kind of ends. Are they together? Kind of. Are they not? Kind of. Once again, I don't know. MDMRNBetween moments of feeling like trash this week, I did stop by the library to pick up some books that I had requested. Yes, I requested the next three volumes of Hi Score Girl. While there, I randomly picked up "Wanted" and "The Liminal Zone." The first is a single volume Shojo manga about pirates, so I'm down. The second is a single volume of Junji Ito horror that I have yet to read. So, a fine assortment. Not shown, but I picked up volume 1 of Frieren for my 15 year old to try out as they himmed and hawed over what to get from the library. I saw that Vol 1 of the series was there, snagged it, and said, "Here, try this." I also said that I'd read it myself even if they don't like it. So, there's that. Will report back individually on my library reads later!
