Any advice on a tactical vote in Jagmeet Singh's riding? We've been redistricted so no specific data on how this riding has historically voted, NDP was in third place but now more or less level with Cons, with both Cons and NDP trending up, Libs trending down (caveat: this is all from 338 and Smart Voting so potentially rubbish). Lib candidate seems solid but Singh has all the name recognition, I'm ideologically NDP but don't want to help the Cons.

To quote carbonizedstardust from Threads, it's time to understand which government is responsible for what in #Canada & stop ignorantly blaming the wrong government.

"Can’t afford a house? That’s your province.
Can’t afford rent? That’s your province.
Can’t afford property taxes? That’s your province.
Can’t see a doctor? That’s your province. ..." ... continued in the comments.

🇨🇦Canadian friends, please VOTE! I'm sure you will, but I just in case...

We are all now so deep in the find out stage after so many US folks decided to fuck around and not take the choice of our election seriously.

The world needs the beautiful strong defiant Canada we've seen to continue to stand up.
It's not even just about stupid #tariffs and other insults, it's about urgently stopping the spread of world #fascism!

Don't get distracted. Please do everything you can.

Thank you Canada 🇨🇦!

Regarding #CanadianElection and voting…

#OttawaCitizen headline says "Frustrated voters have posted complaints on social media of long lineups and delays at the advance polling sites."

Mostly I've seen people describing queues but nobody really expressing "frustration" or complaining.

Of course we'll note the differences relative to prev years. And those who've managed complex processes can't help but ponder causes, but people seem only very good-natured and eager to participate so far.

Early voting has started for the #CanadianElection . PLEASE #VOTE! If you need HELP, ask EVERYONE until someone steps up. Even if you think your local results are a forgone conclusion, pump up the numbers for what you prefer -- though if you're anti-maga, consider voting strategically and pick whoever has the best shot in your area to shut CPC out. Please, let's see record-breaking #turnout! Please #PassItOn !!

It's nice that the US tax season closes a couple of weeks before ours, as it provides a good reminder to get your ass in gear and do your #taxes.

It's also nice that we don't have some inept billionaire and his underlings firing #CRA staff and raiding its databases.

Also nice we don't have a fascist government ignoring the courts and human rights and disappearing people to third world concentration camps.

Wow, that got dark pretty fast.

Don't forget to vote, Canada.

Canada goes to the polls on April 28. Investigative journalist @justinling has a new series, Chaos Campaign, following the issues and events leading up to the election. Here's his story about how the different parties want to address one of the country's most challenging problems — the housing shortage. His conclusions: The Greens and New Democrats: Nonsense hokum. The Conservatives: Good, but incomplete. The Liberals: Great, but can we trust them? "The only thing to do now is to absolutely grill your local candidates on how they will, personally — not as a party — advocate for strong solutions to the housing crisis," Ling writes.
"We got into this mess because of endemic buck-passing and the ability for a small group of anti-development yahoos to hijack the conversation. The only way out of this is to demand accountability and make it clear that we want more homes."

Bug-eyed and Shameless · Who Has the Best Housing Plan?By Justin Ling

The rapidly approaching #CanadianElection isn't a certain win for either major party. Polling favours the #Liberals due to interim PM Mark Carney's handling of the US's aggression, but it's missing the returning #snowbird niche. In 2 days I've heard 2 stories from that group: one who hates every dollar "lost" to Liberal policies, has Florida property and is open to ideas like "one Canada-US currency," and another whose car with Quebec plates was vandalized in FLA, who fears invasion.

Canadians traditionally toss out their leading parties after a few terms in office, and after ten years of Liberal government, we were all fully expecting a majority CPC government after the next election. But Poiliviere made a strategic error — for years his shtick has consisted of exactly two things: smearing the person of Justin Trudeau, and parroting every slogan that came out of Trump’s mouth. These two pillars were working well for him, and Trudeau’s popularity was tanking. But when Trudeau stepped down, and Trump betrayed our long partnership, it kicked both the legs out from under him.

I think that if the CPC had chosen a different person for leader, a more traditional conservative rather than a populist Trump wanna-be, we wouldn’t have seen this massive shift away from the CPC after Trump got into office. Liberal fatigue would have still carried the day for them. But it turns out that our revulsion to Trump-associated politicians is even stronger than that.
