I recently heard this reaction to my European Digital Autonomy Initiative (EDAI). It’s not ill-willed — it’s a brutally honest summary of the skepticism many feel. And you know what? I get it. That’s exactly my starting point.

My EDAI doesn’t pretend that Europe is leading the digital race today. We’re not. But accepting this reality isn’t the same as surrendering to it.

Europe doesn’t need to copy Silicon Valley. We don’t need to outspend Meta or worship “techbro” hustle culture. What we do need is to recognize that this is not just a technological game — it’s a cultural and political one too.

Our digital ecosystem should reflect who we are: privacy-conscious, democratic, multilingual, inclusive. It’s not naïve to build on those values — it’s strategic. Long-term trust and legitimacy matter.

Yes, we lack the capital of the Big Five. But we have regulation, infrastructure, community, and a vision of the public good. That’s a different kind of power.

So no, we’re not going to give up. And no, I’m not walking away.

Started moving from gmail of personal email account from gmail to Mailbox.org

Normally I am do not "scream aloud" about changes like that. But this time I got experience I want to share.
What I decided to do is to make sort of task, or plan, of what should be updated and update it gradually, like 1-2 item of the list per day.
Also "shocked" to see how many things are bound to our emails, and this is only what I was able to remember.

Parents are able to monitor their children's address books and children will only be able to exchange emails with their parent-approved correspondents.

No advertising, no tracking, no profiling - just like an email service should be for everyone!

Mailo Junior offers two different interfaces. The Mini is perfect for kids aged 6 to 9, with basic features. And for those aged 10 to 14, the Junior interface is the way to go, with more features such as a calendar and virtual disc.

Later, the child's account can be upgraded to the standard Mailo, so they can keep their own address.

If you have some spare time, think about adding a bit of data to the map with your local knowledge. There’s a lot of business data missing that is on google maps like websites, phone numbers and opening hours but also stuff like parking lots and whether they’re publicly accessible and free or not. Adding these makes the competition of ALL services using OSM as a source better. I also use the mobile app https://streetcomplete.app/ [https://streetcomplete.app/] and https://every-door.app/ [https://every-door.app/] to add data while on my walks, these make my walks more engaging and I actually take longer ones + see new places because of it. Streetcomplete also has a focus on important and easy to collect data with their default filters, and you can choose what you want to contribute. Well, I've done my part:
I canceled Disney+ and Amazon Prime. On my phone, I removed all the Google applications, switched to Qwant (which works very well for daily use), replaced ChatGPT with LeChat, and replaced Google Maps with TomTom Amigo and Mappy (having two is better when you're a real estate agent :) ).
Finally, I deleted my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, and this week, Amazon (which we used often).
