What a pleasant ride! I left Berlin towards the north this morning, and what a surprise! Initially, I was a bit afraid that I might get as disappointed as three weeks ago, when I left Berlin towards the south. But, no, it was very different. I don't know why. Was it my mood? Was it the friendliness of the people? Or just the weather? The nice bike path? Or all of the above?
Finally in Czech Republic, Brussels 16:30 - Domažlice 8:00
15,5 hours of travel, too long transfer time in Munich - nearly 4 hours. But it was without a problem.
Still didn't got much sleep, but I have to say that the ICE trains are really nice and comfortable.
I'm starting a new political party. Want to join? It's called #biketooter. But first we need a better name.
THE BICYCLE OF THE FUTURE,
What an Eastern Writer Thinks They Will Look Like in 1993.
The bicycle of 1993 will be built on very much the same lines as the safety of 1893 - i.e., with two small wheels very nearly of a size, says a writer in the Scranton Truth. This was the plan of the first machine built in 1817, and now after a lapse of seventy-six years we have come back to the original design. A machine on this plan can be built stronger and lighter than on any other model. With the weight between two wheels there is less vibration than when it is over either one of them, as in passing over an obstruction the weight is lifted only half the distance in the former case that it is in the latter.

This eve we biked in to Monterey. It was a gray day but there was sun in our thanks to one of the joys of biking: the ease of pausing to chat with folks!
We talked with pedestrians, including: a dad on Webster with 2 young kids he takes biking—he’d just exited vehicle, cautiously & was interested in Dutch Reach; a man outside PO who was picking up his 9yo son from drum lessons nearby; a young woman at library curbside, who has never learned to bike (we welcomed her to call us); a family from Los Angeles on Alvarado with a teen, looking for ice cream; a fam from Fresno with 1yo & 7yo, about to check in to Portola; a fam from Modesto with 1, 7 & almost 11 yo—we sang him a birthday song—by Wedo’s Taco Truck; and 4 young women knitting—1 jelly our daughter is at a Lucy Dacus concert in NY tonight.
Also met a young driver from Pacific Grove, alongside us at Casa Verde & Del Monte light, who welcomed tips on bike-friendly driving.
None of these sweet interactions would’ve happened if we’d driven.

Cool and cloudy this morning. Not much wind. A happy day on the bike.

The monthly community bike ride organised by local parents is always such a lovely event!
If you want to join in, it runs from the Glowing Portal near the Vic Park Library this Friday 25th April, starting at 6pm.
Bicycled the Root River Trail today. Spring is showing up in patches.
Peterson bathrooms--not open.
Whalan Train Depot was open and chatted with the owner for a bit and got a couple of things.
Had lunch at Pedal Pushers Cafe in Lanesboro. Many more stores are open there now. Stopped at a bike shop and got accessories.
1 bunny, 3 squirrels, 1 chipmunk.
22 bicyclists. 6 walkers.
Wow. Glad you're okay. That could have been lethal at the wrong time.
Sigh. How did this happen?
At least it's a simple explanation for the Brompton's wobble (and at least it didn't fail on me last night)
Next #BikeNite is this Friday at 4pm Pacific daylight time (UTC-7)
This is our weekly call for questions. Reply with any you'd like me to add to the discussion on Friday. Please add the BikeNitePQ hashtag so it's easier to find a Proposed Question. There is room for 4-5 more.
(BikeNite is a Q&A type discussion on the Fediverse.)
So last bit won't be as comfortable as the ICE trains. Also this is the one that I take but it leaves at 4:45, I couldn't get tickets for the later trains so I have to wait here in Munich.
At least there is fast WiFi when the station is pretty much empty.
Just figured out what the two little clips on the back of a Brooks bicycle saddle are for.
(apparently you can attach a bag back there).

#30daysofbiking Day 23:
I had a break in the afternoon from grampa daycare duty, so I took my Brompton bike out and rode the Leland Greenway and the Lakefront Trail for 18 miles. There were a couple of detours on the North end of the trail, and I got turned the wrong direction, but quickly recovered. I only wish more of the rideshare bike riders would alert me when they pass me. I had one close call when avoiding an obstacle without knowing I was being passed at the time.

First bit to Köln without a hitch, only 15 min delay. Only problem was with security on station when I needed to go for "supply's" for the second train, they didn't want me to lock my bike in front of the shop on the station.
So many trips I used to do in my car are only a few minutes longer via electric #bike. #BikeTooter
I am so proud of myself — I changed the disc brake pads on my bike! For {growing up reasons} mechanical repair intimidates me a lot, even though I know I’m capable. So this feels really good. It only cost me $20 for new pads, and I didn’t injure myself either.
You maybe noticed that I lost my mechanical headwind meter.
In the hostel there were children playing with it and after few times putting it back I forgot about it when I was leaving.
Don't know when I will be able to replace this important bit of equipment.
