King Protea, national flower of South Africa due to its symbolism. The hardy plant represents strength, courage & resilience as it survives in extreme climate conditions. Proteas also symbolize diversity, due to the hundreds of variations in color & shape.

Tropical Protea Blossom. I found this King Protea nestled among other tropical plants in my favorite flower shop, Paiko, on the island of Oahu in the Kaka'ako district. The King Protea is a distinctive member of the protea, having the largest flower head in the genus. This plant is also known as the King Sugar Bush, Honey Pot, and Cape Artichoke Flower. Also included in this image is flowering ginger, palms and other tropical leaves. Symbolically, the hardy protea represents strength, courage, and resilience as it survives in extreme climate conditions. Proteas also symbolize diversity, due to the hundreds of variations in color and shape found within their genus.
